Celebrating Easter this year was different than previous years. Not because of the pandemic or the quarantine but because this year I had an experience like no other. Crazy enough I had an experience all week that when Easter Sunday came, I went to church and was happy but also was really looking forward to having brunch afterwards. I not only celebrated Easter, but I also celebrated Holy Week. Holy Week is new to me and something I didn’t ever consider in previous years. Holy Week is really preparation for Sunday and being reminded of the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross for me, or at least this was what I did for Holy Week.
In January 2018, I had the experience of a lifetime when I went to Israel. To walk the spaces and see the places that I read about in scripture was life changing. That trip has made scripture come alive to me when reading like never before. When there is a place mentioned in the Bible that I visited, I am transported back there and can feel and be immersed in what I’m reading. So, Holy Week for me was exciting. Each day I would read and understand what Jesus was doing that particular day of the week, was he having the last supper or in the garden of Gethsemane or walking down the Via Dolorosa? Each day, I was reminded of the events that took place over two thousand years ago and I was deeply moved.
Jesus died for me on a Good Friday, and He rose on that fateful Sunday morning and now lives and sits by the Father. This year was the first year for me to celebrate Holy Week and truly rest and honor the Lord, my prayer, is that it won’t be the last.
How did you celebrate Easter? Let me know!
With Love,
